Reimbursement

Medicare will initiate reimbursement for the Aeriflux test nationwide begining January 1, 2010, and it is expected that most private insurers will quickly follow. The test will be billed using six instances of CPT code 83987 "Exhaled Breath Condensate pH", and Medicare will reimburse ~$133 per series of six tests. Each local laboratory will set their own pricing, and while Medicare patients will not be billed for any balance, patients with private insurance may have to pay the difference between the reimbursement and the laboratory fee.

It is important to note that your patient's insurance will be billed by the laboratory from which you order the test. No charges are ever billed to the ordering physician's office.
